Panel members announced for launch of furniture design toolkit

Experts in a range of different types of furniture design have been announced as panel members for the launch of a toolkit which aims to assist furniture designers in meeting Standards and ergonomic recommendations.

Jim Taylour, principle ergonomist at Orangebox, Simon Dennehy, CEO and founder of Perch, Stuart Lawson, associate head of School of Design at De Montfort University, and FIRA’s own principal ergonomist, Levent Çaglar, have been announced as panel members at the launch of FIRA’s Furniture Design Toolkit (FDT) on Thursday 19th September.

The FDT, created by the Furniture Industry Research Association, will be launched at 100% Design, held at Earl’s Court, London, at an exclusive event. The expert panel members will discuss their views on design, the Toolkit and open the session up for questions.

FIRA will be exhibiting and giving out information about the FDT throughout 100% Design from 18th-21st September at Stand O33a.

The Toolkit aims to provide designers with useful tools and information, including ergonomics, user testing and postural recommendations, and standards and legislation, to supplement their design process. It is the only design resource to contain this highly valuable information, provided by industry experts.

Levent Çaglar, principal ergonomist for FIRA, says: “We are thrilled to have these experts joining us at the launch. Our panel of experts will talk about how the Toolkit works within their different areas of expertise and give their opinions on how it can meet the needs of designers.

“It is really important for designers to think about how they can ensure their product is safe, fit for purpose, sustainable, comfortable and easy to use. This Toolkit aims to help designers consider these issues without hindering their creative process by providing clear tools and information that is easy to apply.”

Following the launch at 100% Design, the Furniture Design Toolkit will be available to download from the website as an interactive PDF. The Toolkit can be accessed free of charge to members of the Furniture Industry Research Association or can be purchased for £90 by non-members.
