Barker and Stonehouse to open new store in Guildford on Boxing Day

Following the successful launch of its Hove store in April 2017, furniture retailer Barker and Stonehouse is continuing its expansion into the South East, unveiling its next store in Guildford, Surrey.

Opening its doors to the public on 26th December 2017, Boxing Day, the new Guildford store is the brand’s 11th bricks and mortar location in the UK.

Barker and Stonehouse always provides something different for its customers, a formula which has proved consistently successful over its 71-year history. Not only thanks to a diverse product range, but also by ensuring that the structure, design and layout of the stores themselves surpass the expectations of any out of town retail outlet.

With an investment of £10m, this new store will be located at Ladymead on a site that was once home to the Guildford Fire Station. The new store will create 25 jobs for the area, and a further 10 jobs in a state-of-the-art warehouse in Crawley that opened earlier this year.

Offering an impressive 42,000 sq ft of retail space across two floors, the Guildford store will boast dramatic architecture, imaginative room sets and visual displays fashioned from a dazzling array of Barker and Stonehouse’s beautifully designed furniture and accessories.

Presenting a carefully-curated selection of designer furniture ranges, customers can also find renowned brands such as Timothy Oulton, Ercol, Riva 1920 and Vi-Spring on display as well as a host of new names including Yask and Huutt.

To provide customers with a 21st century shopping experience, the new store will house two interactive 82-inch screens as well as two totems for perusing the full collection of Barker and Stonehouse homewares online.

Visitors will also have the chance to relax and refuel in the on-site Queensbury Coffee House. The delicious menu comprises of freshly baked bread, cakes, pastries, sandwiches and more, plus a whole host of speciality coffees, teas and drinks.

As one of the UK’s largest retailers of reclaimed furniture, Barker and Stonehouse is also mindful of its impact on the environment. With nearly 20% of all dining and bedroom ranges crafted from reclaimed materials, the brand works hard to launch stores that are not only environmentally friendly but also energy saving.

Guildford is no exception to this rule, thanks to its unique mix of energy-saving lighting and thermal insulation that has been incorporated throughout the building’s construction. For the past 10 years, Barker and Stonehouse has also offered a recycling service, removing all packaging and ensuring that 98% of all waste material is recycled.

Barker and Stonehouse MD James Barker says: “We are thrilled to be opening our 11th Barker and Stonehouse store in Guildford, making this our second south-east store to open this year.

“Surrey is the ideal location for Barker and Stonehouse. Thanks to an already thriving community and a calendar of local events, we look forward to becoming part of Guildford’s cultural landscape.

“Opening our doors on Boxing Day, we welcome everyone in Guildford and the surrounding areas to come in and discover what truly makes a house a Barker and Stonehouse.”
