Vitafoam celebrates 70 years of business

PU foam specialist Vitafoam will celebrate its 70th anniversary on 25th October.

On that date in 1949, the business received its first cheque for mattresses delivered to Wrays, a furniture retailer in Lees, Oldham. Today, the company is present in 14 countries.

In the early 1950s, Vitafoam exhibited its mattresses at The Furniture Show at Earls Court. In September this year, it won the NBF Innovation of the Year Award at the Bed Show for its FRee range of TCPP-free combustion-modified ether (CME) foam for furniture and bedding.

The judges felt this winning innovation could have significant benefits to UK mattress producers, retailers, consumers and the environment. Not waiting for any potential changes to UK flammability regulations, which could see the banning of certain FR chemicals, this new TCPP-free foam material does not compromise on quality, performance or fire retardancy, they noted.
