Furniture stores in Wales and Ireland face lockdown

Furniture stores in Wales and the Republic of Ireland face closure for two and six weeks respectively, after increased Covid-19 lockdown measures were announced this week.

Wales is to enter the period of ‘firebreak’ lockdown from 6pm Friday 23rd October, with residents instructed to stay at home aside from essential journeys and exercise, and Ireland will enter ‘Level 5’ status from tomorrow night (Wednesday 21st October).

Furniture stores fall within the retail category considered non-essential by the Welsh government, yet some scope may arguably remain for trading items considered ‘essential’ for home improvements and repairs. In Ireland, furniture is not deemed essential, but the sale of hardware products necessary for home maintenance is permitted.
