JYSK outlines UK store expansion plans

JYSK, the global Danish homeware retailer, has signalled its plans to drive forward with its next phase of international expansion.

The company states that it "wholeheartedly believes in the future of physical retail", and in its upcoming financial year (commencing September 2021) will carry out 10 store activities in the UK alone, with at least two new stores planned before the end of December, and several more stores due to be updated to the newest JYSK store concept.

The company’s plans for rapid growth are echoed internationally, with a further 1000 store activities – including 200 new stores – planned across Europe in the upcoming year.

Roni Tuominen, country manager for JYSK in the UK (pictured), says: “As the UK continues to emerge from the restrictions caused by the pandemic, we are seeing increasing confidence from customers to come and shop back in store once again. It’s the perfect time for us to push forward with full throttle on our plans for expansion within the UK market. Alongside introducing JYSK to some exciting new locations in the UK, we’re investing significantly in upgrading several more of our stores to our latest store concept 3.0, bringing a fresh new look and enhanced customer experience to our shoppers.”

JYSK says that its five new UK store locations for 2021 will see the company contribute significantly to local economies, with investment valued at £28m over the next 10 years.

Recent sales data from the company shows that, on average, JYSK stores operating with the latest-concept design have seen sales increase by as much as +20%. JYSK has set itself the target of updating all its stores globally to the newest store concept by the end of 2024, which will involve approximately 1000 store activities each year and an investment of several €100m.

As part of the brand’s ongoing expansion, landlords with available properties of 13,500–15,000 sqft are encouraged to contact JYSK’s property development manager Beth Piggott, at [email protected].
