Bed industry awards shortlist sustainable leaders

The National Bed Federation (NBF) has announced the four sustainability category finalists in the annual 2021 Bed Industry Awards.

Now in its second year, the NBF sustainability award attracted more than double the number of entries than in 2020, with an encouraging 13 companies putting themselves forward with their sustainable initiatives. Judging criteria included products, waste and energy management, design, packaging, procurement, end-of-life management, employee engagement and corporate social responsibility.

The judges were: David Fitzsimons, director of circular economy consultants Oakdene Hollins and of the European Remanufacturing Council; Amy Peace, innovation lead in the Circular Economy at Innovate UK; and Martin Charter - professor of innovation & sustainability and director of The Centre for Sustainable Design at the University for the Creative Arts.

Jessica Alexander, NBF executive director, says: “The number of entrants is enormously encouraging, given the growing importance of sustainability in all our lives. There are some fantastic initiatives going on in our industry - emanating from companies large and small - covering everything from carbon reduction and eco-design to circularity, traceability and biodiversity. Everyone who entered should be pleased to learn that the judges – all leading experts in the field of sustainability - were impressed by the number and quality of all the entries, and deliberated very carefully and thoroughly to reach their choice of this year’s finalists.”

The finalists are: Harrison Spinks; Hypnos; Millbrook Beds; and Silentnight Group. The winner will be announced at the Bed Show Gala Dinner, taking place in Telford on 21st September.
