One Year On at New Designers 2015

Sixty of the brightest new names in the design world mark the impact they have made after just one year in business, with a showcase at One Year On, part of 30th edition of New Designers 2015 – the UK’s largest graduate design exhibition.

One Year On brings together original, contemporary and innovative products that are tipped to be the iconic designs of the future. The designers, selected by an independent panel, are chosen to take part on the strength of their entrepreneurial flair and the exceptional quality of their work.

New Designers has worked with many One Year On curators over the years including the Crafts Council, Max Fraser, Thorsten van Elten and more recently Gemma Fabbri. This year New Designers is delighted to announce jewellery designer and photographer Rheanna Lingham as new curator for One Year On 2015.

Rheanna, who is owner and founder of Shoreditch boutique Luna & Curious, comments: "I was thrilled to be asked to curate One Year On, especially given that it was the enthusiastic response to my own work at New Designers that encouraged me to establish my own business as a jewellery designer/maker.

"This year’s selection for One Year On includes a wonderful mix of traditional craft practices and new technologies, many of the designers have combined heritage and cutting-edge ways of making. However, starting up a design business is not all about being a talented practitioner, it is knowing one’s place in the market, as well as understanding costings and selecting relevant promotion opportunities. These skills are hard to learn and I am proud that at One Year On we can work closely with the exhibitors to support and advise them to ensure they have the best start for their businesses."

Celebrating its 30th edition, New Designers 2015 will bring together over 3000 of the UK’s most talented and innovative design graduates under one roof. The 15th edition of One Year On runs across Part 1 and Part 2 of New Designers, featuring creative disciplines ranging from jewellery, precious metalwork, and ceramics to fashion and textiles, furniture, lighting, interior products and illustration.

Part 1 takes place between 24–27th June (with an awards preview on 24th June), while Part 2 runs from 1st-4th July (with an awards preview on 1st July), both at the Business Design Centre, Islington, London.
