Vietnam's furnituremakers go beyond OEM

In 2025, Vietnam’s wood and wood product exports reaffirmed the country’s standing among the world’s top five exporters globally. Within the processed furniture segment, covering indoor and outdoor categories, Vietnam ranked second worldwide after China, achieving export turnover of US$11.7b, reports trade fair HawaExpo.

Following a year marked by tariff volatility, geopolitical uncertainty and logistics disruption, the sector’s continued growth underscores its resilience and increasing vertical integration. Vietnamese manufacturers have responded proactively to external pressures. Companies such as Forexco Quang Nam are tackling logistics costs through hybrid indoor, outdoor collections and smart packaging strategies that optimise container utilisation while sharing efficiency gains with partners, strengthening sustainable supply chains from factory to port.

Regulatory compliance has also become a competitive advantage. Rather than treating the European Union Deforestation Regulation and other requirements as a barrier, many exporters are positioning compliance as proof of credibility. According the organiser of HawaExpo, more than 70% of participating furniture exhibitors use 100% FSC-certified timber, operate under full FSC Chain of Custody systems, and maintain certifications including BSCI, ISO 9001 and CTPAT. In some firms, dedicated in-house compliance teams further enhance transparency and reduce risk for international buyers.

Long-term sourcing partners are reinforcing their commitment. Sydney-based Living Ikon Home, with over 30 years’ experience, now collaborates with more than 100 Vietnamese factories.

“We’ve got 100% manufacturing out of Vietnam. We’re not going to shift to China,” says furniture sales manager Andrian, citing reliable quality and pricing flexibility.

Meanwhile, firms such as TeeMo Design have evolved from UK-led design models to partially Vietnamese-designed and manufactured collections, reflecting an industry shift from OEM to ODM capability – while upholstery specialist USofa’s fully integrated production model and smart sofa innovations, while enhancing their R&D team, have also attracted big Italian brands.

This momentum will be evident at HawaExpo 2026, which will feature more than 450 exhibitors across 2,500 booths – around 90% of them verified Vietnamese manufacturers.

With a 40% expansion in design-focused exhibition space, Vietnam’s furniture industry is signalling its move toward higher-value, engineering-driven offerings for mid- to high-end markets including the UK. Also, at the AFIC Forum, industry leaders will share key regional insights on market trends, compliance updates and supply chain strategies, helping visitors stay ahead in a shifting global landscape.

"Join HawaExpo 2026 to experience the rapid upgrading of Vietnam’s furniture sector, from advanced manufacturing to design-led innovation," says the show's organiser. "The show offers a comprehensive sourcing platform for buyers seeking quality, reliability and long-term partnerships.

HawaExpo will run from 4-7th March at SECC, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
