Clerkenwell Design Week cements international status

The ninth edition of Clerkenwell Design Week (CDW), sponsored by Armourcoat Acoustic, attracted over 34,060 visitors from 73 countries. According to the show's organiser, over 65,757 new business leads were generated during the three-day festival – a +14% increase on 2017.

With more than 200 brands exhibiting across the seven venues and 100 showrooms, CDW further cemented the festival's status as a key event on the international design calendar.

This year’s festival focused on sustainability, with Your Tote Counts and Reform proving a topical subject matter as the debate continues to rage about plastic packaging. The Clerkenwell pink wayfinding once again refined the visitor experience and helped with access to the extensive combination of exhibitions, showrooms, installations and over 300 live events. Visitors also observed installations including Royal Approval, the world’s largest origami structure, folded from composite aluminium sheets with a flexible 4m-high core.

The Conversations at Clerkenwell series, sponsored by Mapei, staged in a specially designed talks space located within Design Fields, included a host of design thinkers and influencers including Fredrikson Stallard, Patrizia Moroso, Timorous Beasties and more. The ninth edition also welcomed 26 fringe partners, including Pilbrow and Partners, which presented the latest in VR experience.

Daren Newton, CDW MD, comments: “The ninth edition of Clerkenwell Design Week was hugely successful and has proven that the festival is a substantial player on the global design scene. The CDW Presents installations raised questions about sustainability within the design industry and we were delighted to have our first charity partner Maggie’s on board, as well as the successful launch of our new exhibition Light, located in Fabric nightclub. We are now very excited to start planning for our 10-year anniversary celebration for 2019.”

Clerkenwell Design Week 2019 will take place from 21st-23rd May.
