Colleagues, friends and families from across the furnishing industry came together to raise £2,400 for industry charity The Furniture Makers' Company at the second annual Tug of War Tournament & Family Fun Day.
Organised by the Midlands Region of The Furniture Makers' Company, the event took place on Friday 27th June at Long Eaton Rugby Club, bringing together businesses from across the sector for a day of friendly competition, fundraising and family entertainment.
The event was officially opened by Adam Thompson, MP for Erewash and former chairman of the All-Party Parliamentary Furniture Industry Group, who also took part in the tug of war tournament.
The day's tournament saw some closely contested battles, with Celtheath crowned winner of the Men's Team Event. One Call finished as runner-up, while George Stewart Design received the Wooden Spoon award. In the Mixed Team Event, 'The Floaters' – a team made up of people from a variety of companies across the industry – took first place, with DPG finishing as runner-up.
Alongside the tournament, families enjoyed a range of games, entertainment, food and drink. Children's activities and a raffle featuring generously donated prizes helped raise funds to support people working in the furnishing industry.
Gina Thomson, Midlands Region chairman at The Furniture Makers' Company, says: "We are overwhelmed by the generosity of the local businesses that provided such fantastic raffle prizes. It's heartwarming to know there is so much support out there, and events like this really show that our industry does truly 'pull together'."
The Furniture Makers' Company would like to thank all the businesses that sponsored the event or donated raffle prizes, including Artistic Upholstery, Carpenters, Celtheath, DPG, Furniture News, George Stewart Design, Hazelgrove, Hunter Knight, Iain James, John Sankey, Long Eaton Guild, One Call, Paulus & Brown, Peter Cook, SATRA Technology, Siren, Tamarisk, United Fillings, Wade Spring and Wallace & Howe.
The Furniture Makers' Company operates nine regional committees across the UK. Each organises a programme of fundraising and networking events throughout the year, welcoming both members and non-members to support the charity's work. Businesses interested in entering a team, sponsoring next year's event or donating raffle prizes are encouraged to get in touch to find out more.
