2016 a pivotal year for Lighting Industry Association

Under the guidance of CEO, Steve Davies, the Lighting Industry Association, Europe’s largest lighting trade association, is currently undergoing a period of development and change.

The results promise to be far reaching, with positive effects for consumers and professionals alike. Three prominent areas of development include the LIA Laboratory, the website and the academy.

The first major development took place last week as the LIA opened the doors to its new laboratory. Housed in a purpose-built facility in Telford, the lab features the latest state-of-the-art testing equipment.

Funded in part by the Government’s Regional Growth Fund, the LIA Laboratory is the UK's largest independent ISO 17025 test laboratory dedicated to lighting and an ISO 17065 (product certification) National Certification Body.

The association has launched its new website, and coming shortly is the development that will possibly have the most far reaching effect – The LIA Academy.

“We are developing the Lighting Industry Academy in response to a real and pressing need within the industry to provide a central and coherent training and career path for lighting industry professionals and trades people,” explains Julie Humphreys, LIA commercial manager.

“The problems facing people looking to develop their skills and qualifications include finding a good quality relevant course and identifying a clear path of progression.

“What we plan to do at the Lighting Industry Association Academy is to bring all of the relevant training providers together under the single umbrella. The Academy will ensure consistent levels of quality and a central point of access.

“Courses and qualifications will take place all over the country, including at our dedicated Academy in Telford and online. They will be fit for purpose and will accommodate the massive changes that technology has brought to lighting in the last few years.

“We will be making our first major Academy announcement at the Lighting Industry Association Annual Luncheon in May. Watch this space!” she concluded.
