In a week of unsettled weather, John Lewis customers were keen to wrap up warm and go shopping, leading to sales up 3.4% on the year.
Home sales were up 8% on the year, with strong performances across the board. Price-matching competitor activity on big-ticket items helped to boost trade, with Textiles and Carpets up 9% and Furniture up 11%. Beds were up 29% with strong mattress sales. Special Buy mattresses performed strongly, along with branded mattresses.
Online sales were up 14% on the year, with gains across all directorates. Home sales were up 15%, echoing trading in stores.
As the end of the first trading period approaches, John Lewis is focusing on ensuring availability is strong, therefore putting itself in a good position for the coming season.
