Norfolk’s largest independent furniture and furnishings retailer WJ Aldiss has reported record sales at both intake and delivered sales levels for the third year running for the year ended 27th September 2025.
After the prior year’s achievement of sales surpassing the £26m (VAT inclusive order intake) milestone for the first time, a further record was achieved with sales on the same measure reaching £27.6m. Delivered sales also grew to a record £22.1m (VAT exclusive).
The retailer says the closing order book was strong and again ahead of the same point last year by 10% at £3.2m, representing "a robust, and controllable pipeline".
Gross margin percentage also grew in line with strategic aims, from 43% to 44%. PBT of £622,166 was, however, slightly down on the prior year, a result of higher costs and one-off "other” income reversals from the prior year.
The business continued to reinvest as it entered the final phase of works to the company’s distribution centre, which it says is delivering improved goods handling efficiencies and stockholding opportunities. "This strong performance brought continued increases to the balance sheet," the retailer adds.
MD Darryl Simpson says: “Following another record year, we can be proud of the advances made in sales and margin growth. With continued uncertainty in the marketplace and unrelenting cost pressures, it is more important than ever to drive growth and gross profit.”
Aldiss retails from two stores in Fakenham and Norwich, covering a total retail sales floor approaching 100,000 sqft, and online.
