BFM seeks improved foaming process

CETEM, a science and technology research organisation for wood and furniture based in Spain, has been appointed the co-ordinating body for the European Commission FreeFOAM project, an initiative concerned with the development of a new polyurethane foaming process which aims to significantly reduce health risks and improve efficiency.

The project team’s members, which include the BFM, are initially concerned with identifying the technical challenges and solutions required for the development of a foaming process that significantly reduces the current levels of exposure to staff from toxic isocyanate emissions and the reduction of waste generated by today’s technology and processes used in the production of polyurethane foam.

The FreeFOAM project, which is funded by the European Commission’s Seventh Framework Programme, has a planned duration of three years.
