Sleep Council's first sales academy graduate

Matt Scott from Scott’s Furnishers of Burnham-on-Sea has become the first person in the UK to graduate from the Sleep Council Sales Academy. The new online training programme for bed retailers in the UK is designed to provide sales staff with sleep-related knowledge to go with their product expertise.

Commenting on his success, Matt says: “I’m honoured to be the very first graduate of this industry initiative. Bed retailers are well placed to explain the features and benefits of the different products that they sell. However, understanding more about sleep and advising customers how choosing certain types of product, changing their sleep environment, bedtime routine and even what they eat and drink can all help them achieve better sleep is what it’s about. I’m now much better placed to offer this advice to my customers.”

Matt was presented with his academy certificate by Paul Little, sales director of Wellington-based bed manufacturer Relyon, a member of the NBF working party which developed the programme.

The e-learning programme was launched at the recent Bed Show in Telford and takes around four weeks to complete. Users are able to study at work or at home, and the four bite-sized learning modules take about 30 minutes each to complete, with a mandatory week between modules to monitor sales conversion rates and absorb the learning material. Successful graduates are awarded a certificate and badge, and gain access to the Sleep Hub App, which continues their professional development through regular news, sales tips and interactive forum.

The NBF’s Simon Williams comments: “We’re delighted to have what we hope will be the first of many graduates of the academy. We would encourage all bed retail sales people to enrol on the programme, to better themselves and to demonstrate to their customers that they are best placed to offer them expert advice.”
