Bed industry MD charged with human trafficking-related offences

Mohammed Rafiq, 59, of Thorncliffe Road, Staincliffe, MD of Ravensthorpe, Deswbury-based bed firm Kozee Sleep Beds Ltd, will appear before Kirklees’ Magistrates Court on 1st December to face charges of human trafficking-related offences.

Mr Rafiq, who will appear alongside two others from Batley – Mohammed Tariq Patel, 39, of Carr Side Crescent and Mohamed Dadhiwala, 46, of Upper Mount Street – was charged on Wednesday with conspiracy to arrange or facilitate travel within the UK for exploitation, writes the Spenborough Guardian.

The three men were arrested as part of Operation Tavernhouse, an investigation set up to uncover the alleged exploitation of migrant workers in the Kirklees area. The investigation was launched in July 2013 after one alleged victim contacted the charity Hope For Justice, which called in police, according to The Huddersfield Daily Examiner.
