This week was up against the week running up to the Easter holiday last year resulting in weekly sales 6.8% down compared to the same week last year. The recent finer weather was reflected in John Lewis' branch sales while online performance continued its growth at 16.1% up year-on-year.
At directorate level, the retailer saw the effect of Easter not falling in the same financial week as last year. Home sales were down 13% versus last year, but Outdoor Living had a great week, up 55%, capitalising on the weather. Within this, Outdoor Furniture led the way with forward order sales up significantly on last year.
As summer approaches and the warm weather looks set to stay, John Lewis is confident that its strong spring/summer assortments will pay dividends in the coming weeks.
