Bed maker to demonstrate its skills at Knaresborough Bed Race

A team from one of Great Britain’s most established and innovative bed makers, Harrison Spinks, has been putting its bed making skills to the ultimate test to prepare for the renowned Great Knaresborough Bed Race.

As one of the sponsors of this year’s event, Harrison Spinks has also put forward a team of seven employees from various departments, including research, components, marketing and development, to take part in the race. This will involve them competing in a timed 2.4 mile run finishing with a swim across the River Nidd, all while pushing a specially-adapted bed on wheels built by the luxury bed making experts.

Part fancy dress pageant, part time trial, the race, which takes place on Saturday 10th June, has been held since 1966. The Harrison Spinks team will be parading through the market town in the pre-race parade dressed as characters from the children’s book, Peter Pan, in line with this year’s theme – Heroes and Villains.

Ruairi Giles, commercial director at Harrison Spinks and one of the race competitors, says: “As a Yorkshire-based company and one of the largest and most established bed manufacturers in the UK, it only seemed right for us to sponsor and take part in the Great Knaresborough Bed Race.

“Our development team has been working hard and has used its expertise in developing some of the world’s most innovative spring technology and machines to build us a race bed that we think is a winner.

“The Knaresborough Bed Race is famous across the region for being a fast, fun-filled event and the team is looking forward to taking part.”

Each year the Knaresborough Bed Race features 90 teams of six runners and a passenger, equating to 630 people taking on the course.
