Land of Beds expands into Greater Manchester

Following a record-breaking Black Friday performance, retailer Land of Beds officially opened its third store, on Ellesmere Road in Pemberton, Wigan on 25th November, marking its expansion from Cheshire into Greater Manchester.

The new showroom also heralds the addition of new product lines, including bedroom furniture from some of Britain’s top manufacturers.

“We had an amazing 24-hour period that saw us record our best ever day of sales both in store and online, followed by the grand opening of our latest store,” says MD Mike Murray.

“I’d like to thank all our suppliers, in-house team, external contractors and media partners for their efforts. Seeing everything come together was the best early Christmas present we could have wished for!”

Land of Beds has retained staff from the former Abbott & Smith premises, as well as creating new jobs both on site and at its head office.

“We have worked hard to keep the essence of a business that was well-loved by the community it served, while completely refitting the premises and introducing new technology to offer customers choice, convenience and the most competitive prices on big brands such as Hypnos, Sealy and Silentnight,” adds Mike.

The new-look store is the company’s biggest yet. Spread over 9,000 sqft and three floors, there are more than 100 beds on the shopfloor. Staff are kitted out with tablet devices and are able to process pay monthly applications in under 10 minutes.

“As we go into 2018, our business is in a stronger position than ever before,” says Mike. “In every possible regard, we are competing like for like with major chains, while retaining the qualities that have sustained us as an independent retailer these past 50 years.”
