New staff members bolster FIRA

FIRA International has bolstered its furniture testing team through the new appointments of a customer service co-ordinator, and, due to expansion, a flammability technician.

As customer service co-ordinator, Lorna Middlewood is responsible for leading and developing the Testing Services Customer Service Team, and is the main point of contact for clients who are within the testing process.

Lorna will also ensure that the team’s administration is carried out in accordance with recognised standards and in line with the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) general quality requirements, as FIRA International is a UKAS-accredited testing facility.

Also joining the FIRA International team is Vanessa Mitchell, who due to expansion within the furniture testing team has joined as flammability technician.

Vanessa’s main role will be testing products to specific schedules within the Furniture and Furnishings (Fire Safety) Regulations 1988 (as amended), and also to non-domestic requirements such as 'BS 7176:2007+A1:2011. Specification for resistance to ignition of upholstered furniture for non-domestic seating by testing composites’ and ‘BS 7177:2008+A1:2011. Specification for resistance to ignition of mattresses, mattress pads, divans and bed bases’.
