NBF launches consumer advice website

The National Bed Federation (NBF) has launched a new source of independent advice about beds and mattresses for consumers that also directs them to their nearest NBF stockist.

bedadvice.co.uk aims to fill the gap in guidance for consumers about bed buying, following the merger of The Sleep Council with The Sleep Charity.

NBF marketing and membership manager Simon Williams says: “We’re keen to ensure that people still have ready access to impartial, expert advice about beds and mattresses, and have done this with a new, consumer-facing platform which is quite separate to the NBF site.

“Our main site has always offered a wealth of advice about how to buy and care for a bed, and of the 50,000-plus unique visits to our site each month, the vast majority are from consumers looking for information about beds. By establishing a separate, more consumer-friendly website, the idea is to make that information even more accessible to anyone searching for help about anything to do with beds.”

As well as explaining how to choose a new bed or mattress, the site also features FAQs plus a product search for anyone seeking a specific type of bed. This will highlight the NBF members that make what they are looking for.

Reasons for buying a new bed made by NBF members are explained, and there is also a search facility which will guide members of the public to their nearest retailer stocking NBF brands.

“The important aspect is that we are closing the loop and not only highlighting the reasons for buying a mattress made by NBF members but also helping them to find stores which sell NBF brands,” says Simon.

“Going forward, we envisage a greater level of video content and less text, as we know that consumers are increasingly likely to engage with visual rather than written content.

“In the past, The Sleep Council has acted as our consumer-facing resource, offering advice about beds within the wider context of sleep. As its role evolved, culminating in the merger with The Sleep Charity this summer, it was important for us to retain the NBF’s role as an independent source of impartial, expert advice through a consumer-friendly online resource which serves to both help the public and benefit our membership.”
