Channel balance returns as Dunelm reports record Q2

Dunelm has reported a record Q2 (to 25th December 2021), with strong performance across all channels.

Total sales of £407m in the quarter were up £46m YoY and up £84m Yo2Y, and included "particularly encouraging growth" from Dunelm's stores.

Indeed, Dunelm's digital sales have doubled since the pre-Covid Q2 Yo2Y. With all channels open this quarter, digital sales penetration returned to a more normalised level of 33%, says the retailer.

"Growth was broad based, across nearly all our product categories, with a very strong performance in furniture reflecting better availability and extended ranges," states Dunelm. "With our stores fully open, our seasonal ranges also performed well.

"The data we receive from GfK on a weekly basis shows that we have continued our strong outperformance of the market and have gained market share in both homewares and furniture."

During the period, Dunelm opened our new ecommerce operation in Stoke, in partnership with GXO, and the development of a new furniture hub in Northamptonshire is also on schedule, and expected to be fully operational in Q3.

December saw Dunelm open a new store in Beverley, East Yorkshire, taking its estate to 176.

CEO Nick Wilkinson comments: "We are delighted with our ongoing strong performance, which demonstrates the growing appeal of our homewares offer and includes some standout contributions from our furniture and seasonal categories.

"Our integrated physical and digital shopping experience has transformed since we launched our new digital platform in October 2019. These advances have enabled us to reach more customers with our brand and specialist homewares product range, whilst also providing a much improved customer experience. Our digital platform and capabilities also give us more confidence and ambition for the future.

"Whilst there are several macro uncertainties to be navigated, we feel well placed to continue to deliver profitable growth across all channels and grow market share as the first choice for home for UK homelovers."
