Vintage Scandinavian furniture showroom opens in London

Aelfred, London's biggest showroom of Scandinavian mid-century furniture, has opened in Hackney Wick.

This industrial 300 sqm space, situated next to a canal in East London, will feature a rolling supply of mid-century Danish, Swedish, Norwegian and Finnish furniture and home accessories. Design aficionados will recognise names such as Louis Poulsen, Royal Copenhagen, Artek and Alvar Aalto, among many others.

Aelfred is a new project from Nina Hertig, the co-founder of Sigmar, an interior design practice and gallery with a focus on original modernist furniture from Scandinavia and Central Europe.

“Secondhand furniture is a sustainable way of shopping,” Nina says. “These products are so well made they have lasted for decades, and they have decades more left in them.”
