Barker and Stonehouse veteran to retire

After over 50 years in the business, veteran Barker and Stonehouse salesman John Findlay is set to retire this summer.

John, who has most recently been based at the Newcastle store, began his career in furniture retail in August 1969, joining Barker and Stonehouse in 1997.

He says: “I’ve always been a people person, and even though I’m from a family of police officers, I knew that retail was where I wanted to be.”

As part of the team that opened the Newcastle store on Leazes Park Road, Morpeth-born John has seen the brand go from strength to strength.

“I’m proud to have been part of the Barker and Stonehouse team for the last 23 years, to have made firm friends and enjoyed fantastic working relationships with our customers through the decades.

“As a family-run business, Barker and Stonehouse has adapted to phenomenal changes in recent years. From the rise of online retail to new trends in interior design, the brand has always been at the forefront, standing for quality and integrity in an ever-changing industry.”

John intends to enjoy his retirement by travelling with his family, watching more cricket and seeing his three grandsons.

Barker and Stonehouse MD James Barker comments: “John has been an integral part of the Barker and Stonehouse family for many years, and it goes without saying that he’ll be missed. His love for the job, his extensive experience in the industry and his determination to always provide the very best service to customers have made him a much-admired and respected member of the team.

“We wish John all the best in his retirement, and hope he enjoys it to the full.”
