Barker & Stonehouse golf tournament raises £10,000 for charity

Barker and Stonehouse has raised more than £10,000 for charity at its annual golf tournament.

Determined not to let the pandemic stop its fundraising efforts, the retailer hosted a socially distanced event with some of the industry’s most-recognised names, at Catterick Garrison Golf Club in North Yorkshire.

From the funds raised, Barker and Stonehouse donated £5000 each to NHS Charities Together and the welfare arm of The Furniture Makers’ Company.

James Barker, MD of Barker and Stonehouse, says: “We’ve been hosting this fantastic tournament for more than 20 years, but last year’s felt even more significant. After an incredibly uncertain time for many in retail, the work of The Furniture Makers’ Company’s welfare arm has never been so important, supporting those in the industry facing hardship.

“We know how difficult the last 16 months have been and we hope this donation can go a long way in supporting those who need it most.”

Commenting on the brand’s £5000 donation to NHS Charities Together, James adds: “We also wanted to recognise the inspiring work of the NHS throughout the Covid-19 pandemic. We are truly grateful for everything they have sacrificed and feel honoured to be able to support the NHS and its everyday heroes with this donation.”

Alongside its industry peers, Barker and Stonehouse has raised more than £120,000 since its first annual golf tournament in 1999.

Paul von der Heyde, chairman of the trustees at The Furniture Makers’ Company (pictured), adds: “It is fantastic that Barker and Stonehouse continue to hold this brilliant event which has been a major contributor to our charity for so many years. It makes a huge difference to the charity and all those whom we support.

“The last year has been particularly challenging and the work of our welfare arm has never been so important. We are delighted to have been able to give in excess of £350,000 in grants to support those who work or have worked in the industry across the country during the pandemic.

“Our ability to support those in need would not have been possible without the massive effort and huge generosity of our supporters. On behalf of the charity, I’d like to say a massive thank you to James and all the team at Barker and Stonehouse for their support, efforts and determination.”
