Bed retailer reports impressive revenue growth

Multichannel bed retailer Bed Kingdom, whose flagship showroom is based in Heckmondwike, has risen early from the economic pressures of the pandemic to record a +50% leap in YoY revenue, taking its turnover to more than £15m.

This huge increase is another landmark in the company’s steep growth trajectory, which has seen its turnover inflate from just £2m only five years ago, and keeps it well on track to achieve its ambition of a £20m turnover before the end of 2023.

Bed Kingdom is using this growth success to invest in its people, both through recruitment and professional development. Over the last year the company has tripled its number of employees to 30, across all facets of the business. New internal promotions and staff hires brought on board are giving the retailer the boost it seeks to enable it to develop new, previously unexplored avenues.

Bed Kingdom's founder and MD Ashley Hainsworth says: “We’re incredibly proud of the way our business is growing and developing, and delighted to see families coming to small businesses like ours to rejuvenate and improve their home and give them a great night’s sleep.

“We’ve worked hard on stocking a range of brands to cater to everyone’s needs, from affordable ranges to luxury brands to eco-friendly options, all with free next-day home delivery.”

Bed Kingdom has focused on several key areas of the business. It is offering a more expansive ranges of beds and bedroom accessories, including the introduction of an FSC-certified line. It has invested into its Heckmondwike showroom, and is expanding its marketing team to capitalise on ever-increasing online opportunities, particularly those presented by social media marketing, says Ashley.

Continually enhancing the website and refining the overall customer journey has been enabled by the internal promotion of Bed Kingdom’s new marketing director, Levon Hall (pictured).

Levon joined Bed Kingdom as an apprentice a little over a year ago, aged 22, and his rise is the result of his talent for marketing and social media management. This has seen him quickly take charge of the marketing team and Bed Kingdom website development, dramatically boosting his team (including the recruitment of a new apprentice) to achieve even higher goals and constantly invigorating the business.

Levon says: “It’s a very exciting time for Bed Kingdom as we are exploring many new sales channels and marketplaces. We are shipping across the UK, matching prices and completely updating the look of our website. We are really set apart from other retailers by our young and ambitious team that is always full of fresh ideas, and always excited to innovate our strategies to fit current trends and anticipate new ones.”
