Bedmaker opens new UK spring plant

On 17th March, Sealy UK officially opened its new spring plant, in Aspatria, Cumbria.

Months in the making, the "world-class" facility enables the bedmaker to create a spring unit that is totally unique to Sealy.

Having been under new ownership for just over 18 months, Sealy UK drew on resources from its global owners, Sealy Australia and Sealy US, to develop the new facility. Sealy says the site in Aspatria is undergoing numerous changes to improve manufacturing efficiencies and support the Cumbrian workforce, tying in with a significant brand relaunch and new website.

Sealy celebrated the opening by inviting local dignitaries to the site: Mark Jenkinson (Workington’s Member of Parliament); Andrew Seekings (chief executive of Allerdale Borough Council); and Mike Johnson (leader of Allerdale Borough Council).

GM David Trimble says: “We used to have spring machines- now we have a spring plant.

"The event was a real ‘pinch-me’ moment for us. Thinking back to 2020 and the fact the site was facing closure, it’s incredible to see how far we’ve come. The facility is truly world-class, and it’s something we can all feel extremely proud of at Sealy UK.

"Most importantly, it gives us conviction in our product, our people and our brand. It allows us to be different and better, delivering a product offer that is totally unique to Sealy Posturepedic. We hope this investment really instils confidence in the Sealy UK team, our suppliers, retail partners and the UK mattress industry.”

Sealy UK will showcase the new Sealy Posturepedic range at the January Furniture Show next month.
