Last month, the winners of a competition held at Interiors UK joined the Furniture News sales team at Silverstone for a series of one-to-one racing car driving lessons with racing champion Calum Lockie.
Representatives from the winning companies – chosen from a draw of companies making series advertisement bookings at the 2014 January show – enjoyed a (somewhat damp!) day of tutorials with Calum, previous winner of the British GT Championship and BritCar/British Endurance Championship, and a veteran of endurance events including Le Mans, Daytona and the Nurburgring.
Calum comments: “There really is nothing better than great company, and getting one’s hands on a steering wheel – even if it was a little more like power boating with all the rain!”
“It was a superb day – I'll be smiling for weeks,” says Homestyle GB’s Stuart Baldwin. Simon Ainge, marketing director of Kettle Interiors, comments: “The day was definitely more challenging because of the weather, which made me less confident, but more eager to learn from Calum.” Homeserve Furniture Repairs’ sales manager Terry Lane adds: “It was a really fun day and I would jump at the opportunity at another! I picked up some great tips, and watching F1 in the future will make more sense.”
The advertiser masterclass followed a track day competition for subscribers. Due to the success of these competitions, Furniture News is exploring options to develop them further next year. Visit the website to see more photographs from the day.
