Cookes team gears up for Vélo Birmingham

With just one week to go until Vélo Birmingham, the countdown is officially on, and the Cookes team is gearing up for the 100-mile cycle challenge.

Birmingham-based home retailer Cookes Furniture has entered two teams of four to take part in the Business 100 challenge alongside 15,000 riders on the 24th September.

The teams are cycling in aid of the Cancer Support Centre, a local cancer charity in Sutton Coldfield where James Pike, MD of Cookes Furniture and member of the cycle team is patron as well as Power Pleas, a Wolverhampton- based charity that that provides wheelchairs and other aids for children with mobility disorders.

Vélo Birmingham is a 100-mile cycle ride on closed roads which starts and ends in Birmingham and takes in towns and villages in Staffordshire, the Black Country and Worcestershire.

James Pike, MD of Cookes Furniture, says: "As keen cyclists, colleagues and friends we can’t wait to take on the 100-mile challenge around Birmingham next week.

"To participate in such a fun day out with the rest of the community whilst raising funds for two great charities at the same time is simply a bonus.

"As a family run business, we have always been extremely passionate about supporting local charities and have worked closely with Cancer Support Centre for a number of years. As their newly appointed patron I am proud to continue my mission to raise funds for this much-loved charity as well as help support the wonderful work of the Power Pleas Trust supporting children with mobility disorders."

So far the teams have raised more than £1200 for their chosen charities. Those wishing to boost Cooke’s efforts and help the Cancer Support Centre or the Power Pleas Trust can still do so by donating to their fundraising pages, here and here.
