Dams sets £50,000 charity target for 50th anniversary

To celebrate 50 years in business, Merseyside-based office furniture manufacturer Dams is aiming to raise £50,000 for its chosen charities during 2017.

Dams has formed a charity committee whose remit it is to develop and implement the company’s CSR policy and monitor its effectiveness and impact. The charity committee includes employees of different levels with one representative from each department who is the chosen voice of their work colleagues.

Each year, Dams employees are invited to nominate charities which are meaningful to them. This is then put to a company vote and employees have the opportunity to investigate and decide which two charities the company supports. Dams then focus on raising funds for the chosen charities for the rest of the year and the chosen charities for 2017 are:

• Alder Hey Children’s Charity

• The British Heart Foundation

The Dams £50K for 50 years charity challenge aims to inspire and encourage Dams employees, both as individuals and as teams. Funds are raised through various events held throughout the year, and employees are invited to take up voluntary work for the chosen charities.

“The 50 year anniversary marks an important milestone for Dams as we look back on our proud heritage as a well-respected UK manufacturer and wholesaler of office furniture.” says MD Chris Scott. "Raising £50,000 is a huge target for Dams but we wanted to do something momentous to mark our golden year and we are all passionate about achieving this goal.”

Chris continues: “During 2017, Dams are dedicated to having a positive impact on our employees, customers, suppliers, the environment, and our charity committee are busy planning a range of fundraising activities and giving back through our charitable partnerships”

In addition to the company’s two chosen charities for 2017, Dams also understands that the company has a responsibility to the local area and is constantly striving to find new ways to engage with local communities to improve people’s lives. This is why Dams will continue to work in partnership with the Centre 63 community centre in Knowsley, Merseyside.

Dams has been supplying Centre 63 with chairs, sofas, desks, cupboards, and other furniture which it upcycle and either sell on (to provide funds to run the charity as Centre 63 are a non-profit organisation) or donate to the local community.

As an independent, family-owned company, built over 50 years, Dams recognises its corporate social responsibility and believe that the long-term future of the business is best served by respecting the interests of all stakeholders, customers, suppliers, employees and the wider community.
