According to Retail Week, DFS is in the process of suing Sofaworks following a dispute concerning brand names.
Before becoming Sofaworks following a rebrand in December 2013, the company was known as CSL. It is understood that the company first acquired the Sofaworks name in 1996, and did not try to register Sofaworks as a trademark until September 2013, but the bid was opposed.
DFS bought the Sofa Workshop brand just beforehand, in October 2013.
DFS is taking action against Sofaworks on behalf of its Sofa Workshop brand, and Retail Week understands that DFS boss Ian Filby and Sofaworks owner Jason Tyldesley attended court proceedings yesterday. Unless the retailers are able to settle the issue outside of court, a judgement will be made on 29th June.
