In celebration of Compton Verney’s new exhibition Britain in the Fifties, British furniture company ercol has provided a selection of furniture to accompany the exhibition. One of the centrepieces of the exhibition is an ercol Studio Couch designed by Lucian Ercolani in 1956 and upholstered for the exhibition in a retro 1950’s Mobile fabric by Sanderson, the internationally renowned brand known for its quintessentially English fabrics, wallpapers and decorative products.
There can be few pieces of furniture which have stood the test of time as effectively and with such affection as ercol’s Windsor Studio Couch. This distinctive sofa can still be found in thousands of homes throughout Britain and around the world. The Studio Couch epitomises the spirit of a company which prides itself on creating stylish pieces made from natural wood which have been carefully designed, crafted and made to last. Yet, while ercol is rightly proud of its impressive heritage, having been founded in 1920, the company has always been alert to changing fashions and trends and, for 95 years, has produced furniture which is perfectly suited to contemporary life.
Britain in the Fifties traces the design journey of a notional young British couple and conjures the social and cultural landscape of this fascinating time. ercol has also provided a selection of furniture for customers to purchase at Compton Verney, allowing visitors to start their own design journey of today.
The Studio Couch is available to purchase through ercol with customers' own covers.
