The Furniture Industry Research Association (FIRA) reports that the inaugural meeting of the All-Party Parliamentary Furniture Industry Group (APPFIG) took place at the House of Commons on 19th March, and, with the new Government established, the group was officially reformed, and Adam Thompson, the MP for Erewash (pictured), was appointed as the new chair.
The other elected officers of the group are: Gregg Smith, Conservative MP for Mid Buckinghamshire; Sarah Smith, Labour MP for Hyndburn; and Rt Hon the Baroness Taylor of Bolton.
Levent Caglar represented FIRA at the meeting and provided a brief update regarding the Government's response to the consultation on the Fire Safety of Domestic Upholstered Furniture Regulations.
Other topics discussed at the meeting included: the British Furniture Confederation's recently launched Plan for Growth; the circular economy; Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) for Packaging; Copyright and Intellectual Property Consultation; and the Product Regulation and Metrology Bill [HL].
The APPFIG is planning to meet again soon to continue the discussions.
