Plymouth-based Fairway Furniture celebrated the official opening of its fifth store on 10th September at Brannams Retail Park, Roundswell, Barnstaple.
Following a successful soft launch period from 1st September, during which it says it received a great reception from North Devon consumers, the company officially launched the store with a 4-day opening weekend event. This included North Devon radio station The Voice broadcasting the breakfast show live from the store, as one competition winner walked away with £2,000 to spend in-store.
The new Barnstaple store offers a wide range of home furnishings including sofas, chairs and recliners, dining and bedroom furniture, beds, mattresses, and complementary home furnishings, showcased in an iteration of the company’s new retail format first seen in its Plymouth store in 2024.
The investment has created seven new local jobs, spanning sales, customer service and operational roles, led by new store manager Matt Davies. The store was delivered on time and on-budget after a 12-week fit-out and stocking period, using predominantly local contractors, ensuring that much of the investment in the store stayed in the local economy.
Founded more than 170 years ago in Plymouth, Fairway Furniture has deep roots in the South West and has grown steadily while remaining independent. The new store continues that tradition, says the retailer, expanding the business’ presence while staying true to its heritage and values.
Commenting on the opening, Peter Harding, MD of Fairway Furniture, says: “We have been absolutely delighted by the response to the new store, with thousands of consumers through the doors over the first 13 days. It is fantastic to finally be able to bring our market-leading product range and ‘Excellent’ Trustpilot customer service to the North Devon area for the first time.”
