Family buyout for Matza and Highgate

Matza and Highgate Beds have a new ownership structure following a family buyout by brothers Mazhar, Asif, Tahir and Zahid Ayub.

The brothers’ father, bed entrepreneur and founder of Highgate Beds, Mohammed Ayub, has now retired and his four sons have bought out members of the extended family to consolidate their business around Matza and Highgate Beds.

Asif says: “We intend to continue and build on the great work done by our father over the last 40 years in making Highgate Beds and Matza successful bedmaking companies, which will benefit both new and existing customers.”

Asif is the MD of Matza, Zahid has the same role at Highgate Beds, Mazhar looks after finance, HR, systems and production and Tahir has responsibility for upholstery and wholesale across both bed companies.

The businesses are based in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire. Matza concentrates on design-led, contemporary upholstered beds and mattresses whereas Highgate has a more traditional catalogue with both firms appealing to different markets.

Asif added: “Highgate and Matza complement each other perfectly and together we will go from strength to strength.”
