A technical forum for manufacturers of office furniture, jointly hosted by the Furniture Industry Research Association and the British Contract Furniture Association (BCFA), is set to be held on Wednesday 12th November 2014 at FIRA’s headquarters in Stevenage.
A key topic for discussion will be the new environmental certification scheme devised by the FEMB (the umbrella organisation representing European furniture manufacturers), launched at Orgatec. Attendees will be given an update and the opportunity to feed back their comments. The forum will also include an update on the EU Ecolabel scheme and the likelihood of the key criteria being adopted as the EU Green Public Procurement requirements, which form the backbone of central Government purchasing requirements.
It is hoped that the technical forum will be combined with a meeting of the British Standards committee for office furniture, FW0/3.
Phil Reynolds, COO for FIRA, says: “We are pleased to be working with the BCFA to jointly host this technical forum which aims to ensure office furniture manufacturers are kept up to date with all relevant changes to standards and legislation. Since the last event, there have been developments to several standards, including revisions of EN 1335-1 (dimensions of office chairs), EN 527-2 (performance of desks) and EN ISO 9241-5 (ergonomic requirements for working with VDUs).
Any office furniture manufacturers wishing to attend the technical forum can call 01438 777 700 or email [email protected].
