FIRA International issues 2020 training schedule

Furniture industry testing and training specialist FIRA International has released an initial training schedule for 2020, with a focus on domestic and contract flammability, upholstery regulations, CE Marking Electrically Powered Office Furniture and PAS7100, Risk Assessments and Due Diligence.

Furniture Fire Safety Training will take place in February, May, September and November, with a focus on the requirements of the Furniture & Furnishings (Fire) (Safety) Regulations, covering the supply of furniture and beds for domestic use.

February, May, September and November will also feature An Introduction to Upholstered Furniture Regulations, where course delegates will benefit from an introduction and understanding of the relevant regulations in the furniture industry. Another course in October looks at the Fire Safety of Contract and Office Furniture, with a curriculum explaining how the requirements of the Regulatory Reform (Fire safety) Order affects the supply of furniture and beds for office, contract and hospitality use.

Two PAS7100, Risk Assessments and Due Diligence courses will run in February and May, and will examine the PAS7100 (Code of practice on consumer product safety-related recalls and other corrective actions) and help delegates digest the requirements of the standard.

Furthermore, CE Marking Electrically Powered Office Furniture will take place in March and June. This curriculum reflects the rise in the sales of powered office furniture including motors like sit/stand desking and height adjustable monitor arms, as these products require CE marking by the responsible person placing the product on the market in the first instance and is a legal requirement.

FIRA members will receive preferable training fees on all these courses. FIRA International can also provide tailored training sessions delivered at its UKAS-accredited facilities in Hertfordshire, or at clients’ premises.

In addition to the training schedule, FIRA International is also hosting two free events this year. On February 12th it is teaming up with the Furniture Ombudsman again to host a Furniture inspection/repair and consumer legal update session, which will cover the latest consumer legal updates, and the process of furniture inspection and repair when customers report a possible product defect.

The following day, February 13th, FIRA International will host its first open day of 2020, giving attendees the opportunity to tour its facilities, try their hand at furniture repair and learn more about the work of the Furniture Industry Research Association.
