A jury of five experts met for two days to judge the products submitted by 114 entrants from 20 countries for the Form 2014 – Design from Crafts and Industry competition, which recognises innovative design, functionality, processing and product-oriented material choice.
185 of the products entered by 66 Tendence exhibitors were chosen by the jury as examples of particularly good design, and will be on display in a special exhibition at the Tendence fair in Frankfurt am Main from 30th August to 2nd September 2014.
“This year, there is an excellent balance between industrially-made products and hand-crafted highlights. Overall, there has been a further increase in the proportion of natural materials used, such as wood, leather and porcelain,” says Günter Matten, spokesman of the Form jury and metal designer. In addition to Günter, other prominent experts on the jury included Christiane Nicolaus, head of the Stuttgart Design Centre, and freelance artist Heike Roesner.
This is the 61st edition of the competition. Organised by Messe Frankfurt in co-operation with the German Arts & Crafts Association (Bundesverband Kunsthandwerk), the Form exhibition is traditionally held at Tendence in Frankfurt.
“For many visitors and journalists, Form is the first port of call for gaining a good overview and finding selected highlights from the huge range of products to be seen at Tendence,” says Christina Beyer, director of the German Arts & Crafts Association. “Over the years, Form has developed into a seal of quality that helps buyers and journalists orientate themselves and, in many cases, results in orders being placed on the spot.”
