Upholstery specialist Furnico has revealed that its lead times have reduced to between four and six weeks since the opening of its second factory.
The firm, which has operated from its factory and head office in Colne, Lancashire, for more than 30 years, opened the doors to a second factory in nearby Nelson in August.
The staff of 50 have increased Furnico’s productivity by up to a third, and the manufacturer is now releasing around 1000 suites per week.
Joint MD, David Winter, explained that a huge increase in demand during early 2014 had resulted in an order backlog and longer-than-anticipated product lead times.
“We had got to the point where our order books were full and we needed to take action,” David says. “We have invested more than £500,000 in the new factory and we are delighted that our investment has paid off. Customer service standards are hugely important to us and reducing our lead times was our top priority.
“I would like to personally thank all of our retailers for their patience during our busy months.”
A combination of factors led to Furnico’s surge in orders. The firm was seeing the benefits from the introduction of a lean manufacturing process, completed in 2013, which resulted in a more cost-effective production process as well as a better quality product.
