The annual Curry Night, organised by the Yorkshire region of The Furniture Makers’ Company, has raised over £2500, with more than 100 guests enjoying an evening of socialising and curry.
The event, which is now in its seventh year and a key fixture in the charity’s calendar of regional activity, took place on Thursday 2nd March at the award-winning Aagrah Midpoint restaurant in Bradford.
Before the three-course dinner was served, Tony Attard OBE DL, master of The Furniture Makers’ Company, welcomed the guests to the event. Then Mark Eastwood, MP for Dewsbury and chairman of the All-Party Parliamentary Furniture Industry Group, gave a short speech after the main course and spoke about the furnishing industry and his path into politics. Guests were also kept entertained throughout the evening by magician Carl Royle's sleight of hand.
The evening concluded with a raffle, with the event raising £2618 for the charity.
The Furniture Makers’ Company would like to thank the following companies that donated raffle prizes – Aagrah, Duvalay, Harrison Spinks, Jay-Be, John Cotton, the National Bed Federation, Panaz, Shire Beds and the Walled Garden.
Fara Butt, chairman of the Yorkshire regional committee, says: “Our annual Curry Night was a delightful evening that raised both money and awareness for the charity. The food served by the world famous Aagrah was wonderful and we have had some excellent feedback from guests who attended – all in all it was a great evening.”
The Yorkshire region is one of several regional committees set up to help communicate The Furniture Makers’ Company’s message across the country as well as organise networking and social events for furnishing industry people to enjoy in their respective local areas.
Tony Attard says: “Congratulations to our Yorkshire committee for organising an excellent event for colleagues and friends to meet and socialise. Events such as the Curry Night serve as a great way for people in the industry to come together and connect with each other while raising money for our charity. I would like to thank Mark Eastwood MP and Masood Ahmed, Mayor of Kirklees, for joining us for the evening and making the event extra special.”
