The Furniture Makers' National Charity Golf Tournament got off to a drizzly start at the prestigious Melbourne Championship Course at Brocket Hall, Welwyn, Hertfordshire last Friday.
All proceeds from the tournament go towards helping current and former furnishing industry employees who find they are facing unexpected financial hardship.
Brocket Hall is one of England’s great historic houses and boasts two championship golf courses – the Palmerston and the Melbourne. Set in stunning woodland, the Melbourne course was designed by English architect Donald Steel and is an ideal example of a top quality golf course.
The clubhouse, positioned on the banks of the Broadwater lake, welcomed the completed golfers back for drinks in the 19th hole. Lunch was served in the Piano Bar and was kindly sponsored by Chimera Insurance. Other sponsors included Abingdon Flooring, Berwin Leighton Paisner, Designer Contracts, The Dorchester and KI.
This is the charity’s longest running event. It is also the culmination of the Furniture Makers’ regional golf events with players all vying to win the coveted Cabinet Maker Cup for the best net score. The tournament was a singles Stableford full handicap competition. Other prizes included best team, best veteran, nearest the pin and the longest drive.
