Global Danish home furnishing group JYSK doubles UK stores

JYSK opened five new stores across the UK this year as it continued its promised expansion, including the first in the south this month.

The Danish-owned global home furnishing group, which has more than 2000 stores across 35 countries, described business as brisk on opening days at Coventry, Swadlincote, Pontefract, Grantham and Bournemouth.

Celebration opening weekends attracted significant customer queues which converted well at the tills as UK shoppers were introduced to JYSK’s keen price points and Scandinavian style.

The new stores join established outlets in Lincoln, Mansfield, York, Bolton and Blackburn as the group celebrates its 5th birthday in the UK.

Country manager Steve Stenhouse says: “There aren’t many store groups that have continued to expand over the last five years, but JYSK has done so globally as well as in the UK market. Our mix of great quality and great prices has resonated well with shoppers. We were delighted with the response to our pre-launch activity, which yielded substantial queues, with purchase levels to match. Bournemouth, our first southern store, had one of the busiest opening days. Several of the store openings attracted ex-pat Danes, delighted to see their favourite store in the UK.”
