Independent Retailer Month 2014 will commence on 1st July. The well-established retail campaign aims to create fun activities and events in stores, between a group of stores, or across a town, to increase footfall into towns and villages UK-wide, and to remind people about how enjoyable it can be to shop local and support the businesses that are part of the fabric of the community.
According to organiser Clare Rayner: "For every £1 spent locally around 50-70p of that money recirculates back into the local economy. For the same £1 spent out of town or online, only 5p trickles back to the local community. When people appreciate the impact that their choice of where to spend can have, we believe that more people will make more effort to spend more with local independent businesses."
Retailers that decide to participate will be promoted via the campaign website, where free resources are available for download.
