Iron bed supplier achieves carbon-neutral status

A leading UK supplier of sustainably manufactured wrought iron beds, Wrought Iron & Brass Bed Co (WIBBC), has become the first in its sector to achieve carbon-neutral status.

The Norfolk-based company marked the achievement by revealing the steps it has made towards achieving sustainability, and the number of ways it has helped protect the planet, here.

The achievement is reflected in its progress since it was founded in 2003 – such as investing in several carbon standard-approved projects. Since, WIBBC has set out numerous strategies to help offset its carbon footprint and reach this carbon neutrality milestone. These policies include equipping its workforce with hybrid vehicles that are more energy-efficient, which has helped the company streamline its production process to reduce its carbon emissions – as well as using renewable energy sources and sourcing wood for bed slats from FSC-certified companies.

The company also implemented a company-wide Environmental Management System, and switched the supply of energy sources for its showroom, expanding on the progress it has made with managing single-use plastics. WIBBC has partnered with well-known mattress suppliers including Hypnos and Vispring, and these partnerships allow the plastic bags in which mattresses are supplied to be recycled in an efficient and responsible way.

The sustainable policies the company adheres to also extend to the point of sale. On the company's website, every time a customer makes a purchase they are given the opportunity to support the Plant a Tree - Protect a Tree campaign. As well as funding planting, the campaign works to educate schoolchildren on sustainability issues – indeed, WIBBC's long-lasting iron beds can be passed down through the generations, further reducing waste.

WIBBC is confident it can further increase the scope of its sustainable policies in the future.
