Leekes to close Fenton store

Family-owned department store chain Leekes has announced it will close its Fenton store following a final clearance sale.

Leekes has retailed in Stoke on Trent since taking over the store from Cole’s Home Furnishings in 2009. The Fenton store’s town centre location provides a limited layout, so the business has taken a strategic decision to close the furniture store as it looks to follow the successful model of its larger home department stores in Coventry and Bilston, near Wolverhampton.

Emma Leeke, MD of Leekes, says: “The Leekes vision is one of growth and innovation. Expansion is essential in the current economic climate if we are to secure a future for the business. Although the Fenton store has proved successful, the size of the store limits its possibilities. Therefore the difficult decision has been made to close the doors to the Fenton store.

“We have informed our staff at every stage of the process and have made sure that wherever possible, each member has been has been advised of alternative roles at our other Midlands stores.”

Leekes Home Department Stores can found be in Coventry, Bilston near Wolverhampton, as well as Llantrisant and Cross Hands in South Wales and Melksham in Wiltshire.
