Magnet appoints store operations director

Magnet has promoted James Cheetham to store operations director to lead the next phase of its showroom transformation, as the kitchen specialist strengthens its store teams and announces a "market-leading"commission scheme ahead of its key winter trading period.

In his new role, James takes on national responsibility for Magnet’s store operations, bringing more than 18 years’ experience in retail leadership, including senior roles at Wilko and Poundland. Since joining Magnet in 2024 as regional manager, he quickly progressed to head of stores and now store operations director, where he will lead showroom performance, develop store teams and help shape the continued evolution of Magnet’s showroom network.

His appointment comes at a pivotal point for Magnet, with the business now focused on building on the momentum made this year after a significant period of transformation. It says early signs are encouraging, with recent double-digit growth in LFL sales across Magnet’s consumer business, signalling positive momentum as the business heads into the crucial winter trading period.

To build on this progress, Magnet is continuing to invest in its people, introducing a new commission scheme that gives kitchen designers the opportunity to earn an uncapped commission on top of their basic salary.

James says: “We’ve already made good progress with our plans and I'm excited about the opportunity to build on everything we’ve achieved this year. We’ve got brilliant people right across this business, and I’m really proud of the investment we’re making in them, giving them the right tools and support to do their best work and making sure they’re rewarded for their hard work and talent. That’s how we’ll continue to attract and keep great people, while delivering the great service our customers know us for.”

Sophie Rose, CEO of Magnet, adds: “James’ appointment comes at a really important time for Magnet as we focus on delivering the next phase of our transformation. He’s made a huge impact since joining the business, bringing a strong understanding of what it takes to run successful stores and just as importantly, how to get the best out of people. As we head into our busiest trading period with a stronger proposition and a clear plan for growth, I’m delighted to have James leading our stores and helping us build on the momentum we’ve created this year.”
