Mammoth Technologies’ director of Sleep Science and Research, Jason Ellis has become the world’s only professor of sleep science.
Professor Ellis, who runs the Sleep Research Centre at Northumbria University, celebrated his new Professor status in the presence of world leading industry peers at an inauguration ceremony at Northumbria University on 2nd April.
Jason joined the Mammoth team in the summer of 2012 following the company’s long-standing collaboration between Mammoth Technologies and experts from the Sleep Research Centre. He carried out extensive research which established Mammoth as makers of the only mattress clinically proven to enhance sleep.
Jason says: “A good night’s sleep is essential for health. According to the Mental Health Foundation, more than 30% of the UK population currently suffers from insomnia or another sleep disorder. Many people are not getting the right amount of sleep, which can be due to a number of factors but having the right mattress is essential to closing that gap. The Sleep Council found that an increase of 42 minutes sleep was associated with those who had replaced an uncomfortable old mattress with a new one.
“Working with Mammoth to create the perfect mattress is something I am passionate about and the Professorship recognises the time and hard work I’ve spent researching sleep.”
Mammoth mattresses are Class 1 registered medical devices with the Medicines and Healthcare Regulatory Authority (MHRA). As well as the University of Northumbria Sleep Science Centre, they include the Newcastle University School of Bio-Sciences, the British Athletes Commission, English and Irish Rugby Players Associations and the UK Chiropractic Patients Commission.
