In the week ended 23rd March 2025, total retail LFL sales jumped by +10% from a weak base of -2.28% for the same week last year, reports BDO.
Although sales in brick-and-mortar venues were strong this week, online retail sales climbed up into double-digit growth territory.
All retail segments returned positive outcomes across sales channels, with fashion leading overall due to a boost in online sales.
Homewares total LFLs went up by +9.18% from a weak base of -4.84% for the same week in 2024, representing the ninth positive outcome for the category since 2025 began. Store homewares sales rose by +4.81% from a base of -3.05% for the same week last year, indicating the seventh positive result for the category since the start of 2025.
Total store LFL sales grew +5.74% from a poor base of -3.34% for the same week in 2024. Total non-store LFL sales ballooned by +16.89% from a base of +1.57% for the same week last year.
The week started cloudy but slowly cleared up and became sunny midweek before an onset of rain by the end of the week. The same week last year saw rain and showers dotted with periods of spring sunshine.
Overall footfall increased by +1.8%, as shopping centres saw footfall grow by +2%, retail parks enjoyed a footfall boost of +1.9% and high streets saw an increase of +1.6%.
