New chair for furniture standards committee

Phil Reynolds, director of the Furniture Industry Research Association and general manager of FIRA International, has been confirmed as the new chair of the FW/0 furniture standards committee, an impartial role that is not related to either position at FIRA.

Under the direction of the British Standards Institution’s Standards Policy and Strategy Committee, FW/0 is responsible for the development and maintenance of British Standards relating to furniture.

The committee also has the responsibility of formulating policy and providing guidance to other groups which participate in the work of CEN/TC 207 - Furniture and ISO/136 - Furniture, both of which are responsible for standardisation.

Phil will be responsible for leading the committee in its formal deliberations with the objective of establishing a consensus on all matters, and ensuing a UK viewpoint is established on European and international standardisation within the committee’s remit.

He says: “It’s very flattering to be appointed chair of FW/0. I’ve worked as part of this committee for a number of years and see great value in their work, especially when it comes to representing the UK view on the international standards stage.

“I would urge all from across the furniture industry to take note when we have standards out for consultation as it’s by having this feedback and can really support them and make sure views are taken into consideration.”
