Next's spring sales exceed expectations

Next reports that full-price sales were up +5.7% YoY over the 13 weeks to 27th April, slightly ahead of the retailer's guidance for this period (+5%).

Online sales were up +8.8%, while store sales movement was flat, at 0%.

Sales and profit guidance for the full year remains unchanged, with Next Group's PBT forecast to be £960m (+4.6%).

"We expect the sales performance in the second quarter to be weaker than the first quarter because last year benefitted from particularly warm weather from late May through to the end of June," the retailer concludes.
